OUR PROVIDERS
Our practice is comprised of four board-certified pediatricians and two pediatric nurse practitioners, catering to children and their specific health care needs. Whether visiting for routine checkups, immunizations, school physicals, illness or injury, your child will receive exceptional care.
David M. Castro, M.D.
Founder and Owner
Dr. Castro graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, Incarnate Word University of San Antonio, and The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his Pediatric Residency at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Castro is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Shikha Lakhwara, APRN-CNP
Ms. Shikha Lakhwara is a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Primary care.
She earned her Masters degree in Nursing at UT Health Science Center, San Antonio and since then she has been serving the pediatric population of San Antonio and their families with the greatest care and compassion. Her experience with kids includes working with acutely ill kids as a registered nurse at University Hospital to as a nurse practitioner taking care of newborns through adolescence in underserved communities of San Antonio. Ms Shikha truly believes that the foundation for lifelong good health begins early in life with disease prevention and health promotion. She is excited to be a part of the Caring for Kids family!
In her free time, she enjoys reading, music, and spending time with her husband and 2 kids.
Aracely I. Ferrer, M.D.
Founder and Owner
Dr. Ferrer graduated from Texas A & M College of Medicine. She completed her residency at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Ferrer is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Keeping your family happy and healthy is what we do best. As pediatricians, we aspire to provide the best possible care to promote the optimal health, growth, and development of your child. We offer families comprehensive, continuous, family-centered pediatric care.
Lydia Chapa Wilson, CPNP
Lydia Chapa-Wilson is from Texas and grew up in a military family. She graduated from Nursing school from the University of Texas at Arlington. After graduating nursing school, she joined the United States Air Force and spent the next thirty years serving our country.
In 2016 she retired from the military. She received a Master’s in Nursing from the University of the Incarnate word as clinical nurse specialist. In 2005 she received a post master’s degree from the University of Texas at Galveston as a pediatric nurse practitioner.
Lydia has 17 years experience as a pediatric nurse practitioner in pediatric primary care and pediatric urgent care and emergency room.
She is certified as an asthma educator. She and her husband have three grown children and three four legged children.
Laurel Franck, M.D.
Owner
Dr. Laurel Franck was born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX. She graduated from Texas A&M University – College Station and went on to medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Franck completed her pediatric residency at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center program and is Board Certified in Pediatrics. She is excited to be back in Texas and at Caring For Kids. Dr. Franck enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband, daughters, family, and friends.
Jennifer Nelson, MD, FAAP
Cynthia Flores, NPNP-PC
Cynthia Flores is a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in Primary Care. She earned her Master’s Degree at UT Health Science Center. Her background in the pediatric population includes nursing experience in Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care, and Emergency Room Care. Ms. Flores takes great joy in the active participation in family child health promotion maximizing family strengths and use of community resources. During her free time Ms. Flores enjoys reading books recommended by her patients, gardening and spending time with her family.

thorough but gentle patient exams, reassurance, and encouragement… all from a doctor your children can call their own!
Emergency Care
If your child has a life-threatening emergency, call 911. For minor emergencies and common illness after business hours feel free to call Methodist Children’s Hospital Call-A-Nurse line at 210-226-8773. For urgent (after hours) medical advice you may also call the clinic at 210-877-5600 to reach the physician on call through our answering service. If you must go to an emergency room we advise using a children’s emergency center such as Children’s Hospital of San Antonio or Methodist Children’s Hospital.

Same Day Visits
Unfortunately, we do not accept walk-in visits. Please call to make an appointment. Same day visits are available. We ask that you call our office prior to coming in. We will make every effort to take care of your child as soon as possible. If no appointment slots are available you will be given recommendations by the physician.

CANCELLED APPOINTMENTS
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please call our office within 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. Doing so enables us to use your appointment slot for another patient. This policy benefits you and others. Unfortunately, if you fail to make an appointment, without calling to cancel, you will be considered a “No Show”.
YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
Bring your insurance card to every appointment. We will verify your insurance and personal information at each visit.
You will be allowed a ten (10) minute grace period for being late after which you will be given the opportunity to reschedule.
